    Helping Patients with Alcohol Problems is a freely available web-based training curriculum geared toward generalist clinicians. This evidence-based curriculum is a tool used for teaching skills for addressing alcohol problems (e.g. screening, assessment, brief intervention, and referral) in primary care settings, and emphasizes knowledge and skills regarding cross-cultural efficacy.

  5. Emergency Department Alcohol Education Project
    This web site has been funded in part by the NIAAA and supported by ENA, ACEP and SAEM. Its goal is to promote the adoption of screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) among emergency department (ED) providers and includes educational materials and an online curriculum on SBIRT.

    This Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) recommends alcohol and drug screening (blood and urine) of injured patients aged 14 and older at hospital admission. A comprehensive substance abuse assessment is outlined and some brief intervention techniques are described.

    This Quick Guide is based in TIP 31, Screening and Assessing Adolescents for Substance Abuse Disorders, and TIP 32, Treatment of Adolescents with Substance Use Disorders, which are part of the Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) series, published by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.

  10. TIP 34: Brief Interventions and Brief Therapies for Substance Abuse
    This TIP responds to an increasing body of research literature that documents the effectiveness of brief interventions and therapies in both the mental health and substance abuse treatment fields. The TIP will also be useful for health care workers, social services providers who work outside the substance abuse treatment field, people in the criminal justice system, and anyone else who may be called on to intervene with a person who has substance abuse problems.

    This TIP recommends practices for identifying, screening, assessing, and treating alcohol and prescription drug abuse among older adults. It is designed for substance abuse treatment providers, primary care clinicians, social workers, and senior center staff.

    A group formed by students for students of multiple health related disciplines. The goal of the group and the web site is for all graduating health care professional students to have the skills to appropriately screen, diagnose and provide intervention for patients with substance abuse problems.
