playing cards Don’t play with your life or that of your family. In this game…everyone loses.

Research and data show that Hispanics are at particular risk of death or injury from an alcohol-related traffic crash. To assist in addressing this issue, NHTSA in conjunction with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), developed the Hispanic Heritage Kit (HHK). The HHK contains facts, data, laws, and other information on impaired driving in the form of a brochure, a poster, and a flyer. The theme, “Don’t play with life…Because in this game, everyone loses,” is consistent throughout the materials that were based on “Loteria,” a game that is popular among many Latinos. All pieces have been produced in both English and Spanish.

The HHK is intended for use by a broad –based audience and can help States, local communities, and others to inform Hispanics about the dangers of impaired driving. The HHK can be especially useful during periods of special focus for Hispanics such as Hispanic Heritage month in September and Cinco de Mayo in May. However, the use of the HHK in programs and activities throughout the year is encouraged. Ideas for use of the HHK include displays and distribution at State, local or community events and meetings, health fairs, school programs or other related activities. They can also be posted in community centers, health clinics, houses of worship or other locations.

The Hispanic Heritage Kit is free and available from NHTSA’s resource center, and can be ordered through NHTSA’s website, www.nhtsa.dot.gov. The Kit components can also be ordered individually.
